Gordon Uyehara October 2010

2nd & 3rd October 2010

£295 - includes 25g Art Clay Silver 650.

We are very excited about Gordon K. Uyehara's first ever visit to Scotland to teach for Art Clay Scotland this October! This is a truly unmissable opportunity to spend two days with one of the top Metal Clay Artists in the world, and the good news is that due to securing a larger venue spaces are still available!!!

This is the first time Gordon has taught this stunning "Naupaka" Pendant in the UK. The Naupaka flower, with its petals all on one side, has spurred many Hawaiian legends of forbidden lovers. The lovers are separated, one banished to the mountain and the other to the coast where the varieties of the Naupaka plant thrive. When the flowers are brought together, the lovers are said to be reunited. Gordon's stylized silver clay version of the flower, is a fairly complicated design but its construction can be broken down into manageable steps. Gordon will guide you through the entire process and is an incredibly generous teacher and humble artist. You need experience of working with metal clay for this class.

Gordon was born in Hawai and still lives there. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and after thirteen years in the information technology field, he decided to take some time off for artistic exploration. It was then that he made the thrilling discovery of silver clay in a local workshop.

Gordon is now a freelance artist/designer and an Art Clay Silver Senior Instructor. Working with silver clay led him to reconnect with an attraction to small scale design and wearable art. His motivation is to create pieces that are familiar and yet interestingly seductive and to explore the outer design limits of this relatively new art form. He is gradually incorporating traditional jewelry making techniques into his work as he learns them. Inspiration for his creations arrives from nature and from the visual and performance artists he admires. Gordon actively participates in local, national, and international juried exhibitions and has won many awards.

This class has new spaces available due to securing larger venue. But hurry - we anticipate that these extra places will go extremely quickly!! Full payment is required to secure a place. Please be sure to read our cancellation policy here, and be aware that by booking you are agreeing to our terms. To reserve your place simply call us on 0131 228 5058 now.
