Our Team

Established in February 1997, Art Clay Scotland are Scotland's original training provider in Metal Clay. We have introduced literally hundreds of happy students to the wonders of this remarkable product. Art Clay Silver consists of pure silver particles, a binding agent and water. During firing the binder burns away and the pure silver particles solidify leaving you with pure silver!! The resulting pure silver piece can be hallmarked 999 by an Assay Office. We teach courses in a variety of Metal Clays, mostly Art Clay Silver and Art Clay Copper, and occasionally in BronzCLay. The arrival of Sterling, Copper and Bronze Clays means that Art Clay Silver is frequently referred to as Precious Metal Clay, as once fired it results in precious metal. However it is not to be confused with PMC which is a different brand of Clay. You can read more about Art Clay Silver or Metal Clay on Wikipedia here.

Why Choose Us?

Our Metal Clay courses are led by multiple Award Winning Artist Emma Baird MA. Hons. She is a senior Art Clay Instructor, PMC Certified, and is the only training provider of the Art Clay Certification program in Scotland. Emma's work has been recognised internationally and she is a featured artist on the prestigious Metal Clay Guru web site. Emma has worked on the Committee of the UK Art Clay Guild, both as Chairman and Newsletter Editor. Her work is a regular feature in the national UK Magazines such as Bead and Making Jewellery, with over 30 publications so far. Her work features in several notable publications including The Art of Metal Clay by Sherri Haab's and 30 Minute Rings by Lark. She was placed First in the Metal Clay Category of the British Bead Awards in 2010, and is currently the ONLY UK finalist in the prestigious Saul Bell awards, with her beautiful Rubens Pin. Take a look at Emma's Gallery here.

We offer a wide variety of Silver Clay courses, as well as occasional Copper & Bronze Clay Courses. We have recently reintroduced our popular half day beginners course, which are booking up in record time. These courses are ideal for the complete beginner. In addition there are regular project based classes where you'll learn a new technique whilst making a popular set project. All of the design examples for all of these classes are available for you to view in our Gallery Area which fronts our studio. Please feel free to pop in and say hello and view them.

Guest Artists

We regularly run Master Classes with Guest Artists at the top of the field. We have run classes with Sherri Haab, Robert Dancik, Hattie Sanderson and Gordon Uyehara. In August last year we brought Holly Gage to Edinburgh for two fantastic workshops!!

The Important Bits

Below you will find our current session of classes. If you have no experience with Metal Clay at all then we recommend you first attend our Magic of Art Clay Class, this will give you experience to attend our other classes. With the exception of our beginners classes, our full day Classes are aimed at those who already have experience of working with Metal Clay. In project based classes we may not have time to cover the basics of making rings or lentil beads for example. The Level I & II Certificates assume a significant amount of experience.

Our courses are held at Art Clay Scotland at 120 Bruntsfield Place, Edinburgh. Please check the times for any course you are interested in and be sure to arrive in plenty of time to allow you to get settled.

Our class fee's include clay, a loan of tools and your tuition. For our copper clay course you have the option of bringing along your own silver clay, to use with your copper piece - or of course, you can buy some on the day. To book call us on 0131 228 5058. Please read our Terms and Conditions.
